6 Steps to Staying Motivated

A few weeks ago I found myself in a collision with a motivational roadblock!

My job was getting busier, I was working longer hours, and as a result I was feeling tired, unenthusiastic, and lost motivation for pretty much everything outside of work. Unfortunately my blog was a casualty these past few weeks suffering from a case of neglect.

Lack of motivation hits us all from time to time and whatever your goals are, it’s important to stay focused. So today I want to share my top 6 steps to staying motivated…


  1. Remind yourself why you started
    Whatever your goal is, there’s a reason you started it. Whether you’re trying to save money, improve your health and fitness, build a business, or you’re doing something to satisfy your creativity, you had a reason to start in the first place. Remind yourself of that reason and re-ignite the motivational fire!
  2. Have a mission and visualise the future
    Picture yourself in 1…5…10 years time. See it! feel it! Imagine where you are, what you’ve achieved and what your life looks like. What you’re doing now is leading you to that future and visualising yourself there will help keep you on track.
  3. Surround yourself with inspiration
    When I read blogs, see images on Instagram and Pinterest, read motivational quotes, listen to videos on YouTube it inspires me and gives me new ideas. I also love talking to inspiring and positive people. There’s nothing like having a great conversation with someone and walking away from it feeling like you’ve had a breath of fresh air and are ready to take on the world.
  4. Organise your time
    Organisation is key! When I make lists and schedules to get things done I feel much more in control with my tasks and my time. And there’s no greater feeling than ticking things off a list!
  5. Make your goals a priority in your life
    I don’t know how many times I’ve told myself “Yep I’m going to do this!” and then life gets me good and I start saying “I just don’t have time”, or “I have other important things to do”. We live in a busy world and there will ALWAYS be other things to do, but you’ll never get to where you want to be if you don’t make your goals a priority; sometimes you have to cut back or let something else go. No one else is going to make your dreams happen for you, you have to make them happen! Don’t feel guilty about saying no to something else in order to make room for your goals or your passions.
  6. Keep it fun
    You may be focused on the end goal, but if you don’t enjoy the journey then you’re in for a very long and unappealing ride! Make the time you spend on your goals enjoyable and fun.
